Blacks Are Singled Out for Marijuana Arrests, Federal Data Suggests

WASHINGTON — Black Americans were nearly four times as likely as whites to be arrested on charges of marijuana possession in 2010, even though the two groups used the drug at similar rates, according to new federal data.

This information portal was developed by a group of Seattle University Graduate Students in the Albers School of Business. We hope to reach a broad spectrum of individuals, across racial and socio-economic lines, to draw attention to the effects of racism in the criminal justice system, to highlight the effects this disproportionality has on the African American community, and to empower those most affected by this injustice.
